This page gathers in one place the cautions that appear throughout the site. It summarizes — and does not replace — the Terms of Use, which govern your use of the site.

General information, not advice

Everything on TaxesCalculations.com — calculator results, worked examples, explanations, and FAQs — is provided for general informational purposes only. It is not tax, financial, legal, accounting, or investment advice, and it is not tailored to your situation. Using the site does not create a client, advisory, or any other professional relationship between you and the site operator. No one involved in producing this site is acting as your tax preparer or advisor.

What the calculators actually do

Each calculator applies the formulas stated on its page and documented on the methodology page to the numbers you enter. The output is arithmetic, not judgment: it cannot know about credits, deductions, elections, state rules, or facts of your situation that you didn't (or couldn't) enter. Worked examples in page text are computed at build time by the same tested engine as the calculators, so the documentation and the tools cannot silently disagree.

Federal scope

Except where a page states otherwise, the income-tax tools model US federal taxes only: the brackets, standard deduction, and FICA rules for the supported tax years. State and local income taxes, tax credits, itemized deductions, AMT, and multi-state situations are deliberately excluded — each page lists its own exclusions. The sales-tax tool applies whatever rate you supply; it does not know any jurisdiction's current rate.

Accuracy: real effort, no warranty

We work to keep the engine correct — calculation logic is covered by automated tests against reference figures, and year-dependent constants are maintained from primary IRS and SSA sources. Even so, the site is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied. Tax law changes, figures are published and revised, and mistakes are possible. As the Terms of Use set out, the site operator is not liable for losses arising from reliance on any result.

Verify before you rely

Treat every result as a planning estimate, not a filing figure. Your actual liability is determined when you file, under the rules and facts that apply to you. Before making a consequential decision — filing a return, setting withholding, making an estimated payment, timing a sale — verify the numbers against current IRS and state publications, and consult a qualified tax professional who can consider your full situation. If you believe a calculator result is wrong, please say so through the contact page; confirmed issues are fixed in the engine and locked in with a new test.
